2012 Nikon 1 V1 and J1 review

The system is spearheaded by two cameras - the Nikon 1 J1 and 1 V1. The V1 and J1's standout features are their autofocus and continuous shooting abilities. Both cameras feature a 'hybrid' AF system that combines both Phase and Contrast Detection methods, which in principle allows them to keep track of fast-moving subjects in much the same way as SLRs can (and compacts and other mirrorless cameras conspicuously can't). Perhaps nothing signals Nikon's long-term commitment to the 1 System, however, more than its decision to build both cameras around a completely new lens mount and a unique 10MP CMOS sensor.

Nikon has announced the V1 enthusiast small sensor mirrorless camera. Built around what the company is calling a 'CX' format 10MP CMOS sensors, the cameras is part of the company's new Nikon 1 line. The 1" type sensor (13.2mm x 8.8mm) gives a 2.7x crop. An adapter allowing the use of Nikon F-mount lenses will follow.
The mechanical shutter also allows it to use flash at shutter speeds of 1/250th of a second, rather than the 1/60th that the electronic shutter limits the cameras.

Nikon D800 Rumors update the color black

Sensor
The Nikon D700 has a full-frame 12 million pixel sensor and there are rumours that its replacement will have three times as many pixels. Nikon uses a 24Mp sensor in its flagship SLR, the full-frame D3X. When Nikon introduced the D700 it couldn't shoehorn in a 100% viewfinder AND a sensor cleaning system.

Autofocus and speed.
Nikon introduced a hybrid AF system for its Nikon 1 cameras. The 51-point phase detection AF system in Nikon's D3S is widely beleived to be second to none, but we'll be looking for some enhancements for the D800. We'd also like Nikon to take a leaf out of Canon's recipebook for the EOS-1DX and make the AF system menu options clearer, so users are able to get the best from their camera.
In order to acheive high continuous shooting rates and sensitvity levels the D800 will need to high-speed processor.

Metering
We have complaints about the D700's metering system, but Nikon has subsequently produced a more sophistacated system that uses a dedicated 2,016 pixel sensor so we'd like this to appear in the D800.

The Canon PowerShot S100 camera digital is a worthy successor to our previous Editors' Choice high-end point-and-shoot camera, the PowerShot S95. It adds a longer zoom lens and GPS, and improves on the S95's image quality and performance.
This ring can be configured to control a number of camera functions, including EV compensation, ISO, zoom, and focus.

The camera takes 2.3 seconds to start up and grab a shot, and can capture another photo every half second in continuous shooting mode. Other cameras in this class weren't able to match the S100's performance. I used the Imatest software suite to measure the camera's sharpness and image noise performance. Among cameras currently on the market, the Canon PowerShot S100 camera digital is the sharpest high-end compact that we've tested. The Samsung TL500 came closest, scoring 1,972 lines.

As a camera's sensitivity to light increases, image noise increases as well. The built-in GPS performs quite well. The camera features standard mini USB and mini HDMI for computer and HDTV connectivity. Two other cameras in this class, the Olympus XZ-1 and Samsung TL500, have slightly faster f/1.8 lenses, higher-resolution displays, and hot shoes. But they are more expensive than the S100 and lack its GPS and longer zoom range.

Olympus unveils new SP-720 UZ

The Olympus SP-720UZ is based around a 1/2.3"-type CMOS image sensor with an effective resolution of 14 megapixels, coupled to a 26x optical zoom lens, with output handled by a TruePic III -branded image processor. Maximum image dimensions are 4,288 x 3,216 pixels. The Olympus SP720UZ stores images in JPEG format, and is also able to record movies at high-definition Full HD (1920 x 1,080 pixel) .
